Uncle Khoe's Times - December 2012

Dear Friends of Uncle Khoe's K9

God is good!

Today our dogs are in for a treat!

We were invited by Ms Shanice of Supernova Academy of Dog Sports
to participate in their Doggie Tingkat Meals Festive Campaign although we didn't win the most "likes" we are happy that our other friends at Mdm Wong's Shelter did :)

We were blessed and had 3 tingkat meals sponsored by a kind sponsor Ms Jennifer, 1 meat loaf and 2 tingkat meals sponsored by Supernova Accademy!!

All of us at Uncle Khoe's K9 would like to thank Ms Jennifer and also SuperNova Academy - Ms Shanice for thinking of us this festive season!

Spending Christmas with the homeless

During the Christmas Season we didn't forget about our friends who were living on the streets..

On Christmas Eve our two resident volunteers Mr & Mrs Tan went around feeding the resident strays that they usually does weekly.

Along with our young volunteer Jacob this year, spreading some warmth and presence to the homeless doggies..

The dogs were happy to have roasted duck instead of Scrap food for their Christmas dinner :)

Sterilisation

The number of homeless and unwanted strays will continue to grow as as they couldn't helped it themselves, when a female dog is on heat they will be attacked and raped by a pack of male dogs, male dogs will be injured trying to fight amongst other male dogs..this is a natural cycle and the only solution we can provide to our homeless strays is Sterilisation.

This is a more humane alternative, rather then culling them..

Few days before Christmas we had managed to sterilised two female 10 month old puppies whom were living in a factory caged up (for their safety as the area where they lived in has high rate of hit & run accident)
However a caged up life is really not a life we hope someone will come forward to adopt Pepsi & Cola both female, good with human and very active.

If you would like to aid us in our street dog sterilisation programs please write in to us at uncle.khoe.k9@gmail.com

Christmas Wishes Of Our Dogs

Dear Friends of Uncle Khoe's K9

As the festive season draws nearer, and everyone is in the mood of giving and loving
Please note that there are many dogs looking over thru their kennel grills..in various shelters..

All of our doggies have been good this year!
God Please grant them a faithful home!

And for all the strays out there all they need is a little understanding, considerations and love
Spare a little of your Christmas feast for them...

From All of us at Uncle Khoe's K9, Merry Christmas!

Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others is good you do yourself.

Peace on Earth, good will to men,
kind thoughts and words of cheer,
are things we should use often
and not just once a year.

Remember too the Christ-child, grew up to be a man;
to hide him in a cradle, is not our dear Lord's plan.
So keep the Christmas spirit, share it with others far and near,
from week to week and month to month, throughout the entire year!

RE: UNCLE KHOE'S K9 - ABOUT US

"Who is Uncle Khoe?" "Uncle Khoe K9 Shelter?" "Where is it from"

"Never Heard before" was the remark we get whenever we introduce ourselves.

However we are not new to Animal Welfare, Uncle Khoe has been feeding strays for the past 14 years  however as he is no fan of the internet platform hence no publicity was being made.

Two years ago, Uncle Khoe took up a kennel space from than Zeus Communications whom had since ceased shelter operations at the current kennel we are putting up and we have taken over majority of their dogs. That explains why we are now independent and address as "Uncle Khoe's K9"

Furthermore we would like to reiterate again to all supporters of Uncle Khoe's K9 and our residents dogs who used to be from Zeus communications please note that they are now under Uncle Khoe's K9 :) and no longer affiliated with Zeus communications.

Just a brief introduction to our members of Uncle Khoe's K9 below:-

  1. Hilda - Former Zeus Volunteer
  2. Jeanie - Former Zeus Volunteer
  3. Irene - Former Zeus Volunteer
  4. Joan  & Arther - Former Zeus Volunteer
  5. Tia - Former Zeus Volunteer

and also Ida whom had been our caretaker since Zeus time and is still dedicating her time to our furry friends!

RE: WHERE IS MOM?

A filthy stench arose from the carton box, as uncle look on 4 furry puppies pop up from the box.

"Here you go Khoe save them" as Uncle's friend pass him a carton box of puppies.

Uncle has second thoughts when taking over the carton box as he couldn't bring it home neither could he keep them in the farm, we are running at full capacity now after we downsize to one kennel with 27 dogs, "I cant take them...he thought"

However they look so frail, and his friend keep shoving the box to him, in Cantonese he said "Take them no Mother Dog, No Milk" as always Uncle relented and brought them back to the shelter quietly late in the night, worried other volunteers will reprimand him " Uncle not again more dogs???"

Yes as much as we wanted to save as much as possible we could not..
Every month we are making ends meet, we will always be very happy during the first week of the month after we survive yet another month end payments, then we will fret about the following month again.

Maintain a kennel is not an easy task, is not just simply taking in another dog as and when we wanted, there are many points to consider like rental, dog food, medical, sterilisation, microchip, vaccinations, monthly ticks prevention, caregiver to clean them feed them daily, dog trainers to train the timid ones, dogs like humans they do have emotions too they may not welcome another dog of the same sex or they may just find each other too annoying and when they are scared or provoked it results in dog fights, hence we have to separate them, and we do have limited space.

Every now and then we are tempted to save another one off the streets, the pregnant mother dog, the female dog that is on heat chased down for days by male dogs, timid dogs being attacked on by bigger dogs,  dogs falling prey to foreign workers or humans who simply has no love for them, dogs hit by vehicle, dogs stricken with illness, last and not least a pack of hunger stricken puppies running around scavenging rubbish for food...

Stricken with hunger and extremely timid fear of falling prey to bigger dogs puppies hide under any huge objects they feel safe in even if it means danger to us it is a safe haven to them

Dog welfare is a very lonely road to tread on, feeding stray dogs late at the night avoiding traffic and unwanted human snigger's and often than not we have to keep our emotions at bay and move on..

Feeding late into the night

Although rescuing the puppies back to our the shelter will ensure they have enough food and a shelter over their heads, however it does not guarantee health and nourishment as we do not have a caregiver 24 hours for them, they are barely 3 months old, living in the kennel expose them to many other older dogs although separated by a metal grill they are still susceptible to ticks, rats and the sad truth is kennel will never be 100% clean however it is still a home a place to live another day for our furry friends but not so for puppies whose immune are weak.

Fate has however smile upon them, Ms Marie from D.O.G.S who chanced upon the puppies decided to give us a hand and helped us to rope in fosterers, and she has also assist to help us name them as after a while we certainly run out of names for our furry friends!

Presenting the Pastries Puppies! We have 1 Female (Cookie) and 3 Males Peanut, Muffin & Butter both Butter and Muffin are the smallest, which is normal industrial mummies lead a  life of hardship, scarcity of food, and hostile environment, only the strongest will survive and normally the last born are the smallest.

Peanut / Male

Cookie / Female (Front)

Butter / Male

Muffin / Male ( at his fosterer place)

Muffin & Cookie have been send out for fostering by respective family thru Ms Marie Choo of  D.O.G.S, and Muffin's Fosterer has committed to adopt him!

Unfortunately Peanut and Butter is still in the kennel, although we have brought 4 of them to the vet for General Check Up & their First Vaccination previously, intensive blood test was not performed as all these test is costly and normally the vet will only perform such test when they felt a need to.

3 days ago Peanut & Butter were found to be stricken with Tick fever, and both are currently warded to the Mount Pleasant Animal Medical Centre (Bedok) as it was early detection these two fellas were still very active, vet has prescribe dose of antibiotics and review.

Peanut & Butter in Mount Pleasant

Peanut & Butter would be discharged tomorrow, we are arranging for them to be boarded at another section of Ericsson Pet Farm, where they will be taken care of by the workers it will be more secluded from the other adult dogs. As we have yet to find a Fosterer for both of them, and this will cost us $20.00 a dog per day.

We are now urgently appealing for Fosters for Peanut & Butter a home stay environment will be the most ideal for puppies.

We are also appealing for the kind Sponsorship of the following:-

  •  Medical Bills,Boarding Fees for Peanut & Butter
  • Fish Oil, Multi Vitamins
  • AD Diet Can Food
  • Colostrum Milk Powder

Please kindly drop us a message at uncle.khoe.k9@gmail.com or sms us at 9068 1278 / 9199 6662 if you can help us!

Cookie, Peanut & Butter is also up for adoption please drop us an email at uncle.khoe.k9@gmail.com for more details!

“A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.”

Dogs For Adoption

Kaya / Female / 1 Years Old  / Sterillized

"What Have I Done Wrong"?

Kaya asked me again & again, as she waited by the door patiently for me to bring her back "home" to her ex-adopter's house.

Kaya was rescued from an industrial area, she used to live there with her sister Butter who has since passed on due to a hit & run accident, witnessing the whole incident Kaya was petrified and spent most days hiding under the security uncle's bed, both security uncle and Kaya were injured in the accident emotionally, Uncle Krishna in particular had a fractured cheek bone while trying to save Butter, sadly he didn't manage to save Butter and end up falling flat on his face.

The heartless driver sped on at first instance without even stopping to help Uncle Krishna
who is already 65 years old this year.

After the incident we couldn't bear to continue exposing Kaya to the threat of being hit by vehicles hence she was brought back to the shelter when she was 5 months old, she was recently adopted by a couple who has pleaded with me to let them try adopting her as they felt a "connection" with her.

However after 1 month the "connection" did not last nor outweigh the fact that having a dog is a long term commitment and will hinder their plans of travelling and other personal commitments, hence Kaya was returned - "DEPRESSED"

Knowing her thoughts I could not bring myself to return her back to the kennel as she wasn't happy in the kennel especially since her best friend Baby was already adopted by a kind family, hence she is now being fostered at my home even though I really could not manage one more dog.

Kaya is a quiet & docile dog she will always mind her own business, she doesn't Pee & Poo at places she wasn't supposed to, in fact she will wait the whole day for us to walk her and she will then do her business downstairs, she does not mess up the house while we are at work always lying quietly by her bed waiting, she hardly barks as well.

At night when we are sleeping and she really needs to Pee she will do it at the Pee Pad we provided her with, when I am at home she will put her head on my legs..when I am busy she will sit quietly by the gate and wait for me.

Yes that is how docile she is...so I do not understand why she is still not ADOPTED YET.

Currently I am really overwhelmed with dogs.
I really need to find a Sincere, Genuine, Committed Adopter for Kaya.

Kaya is Female, One years old, Sterilised, Small size (around the size of a Beagle)

All she ask is a Little Love and a Home to call her own.
Please give Kaya a chance and give her a home.
